National Security minister, Peter Bunting, says the projection that a recently approved traffic ticket amnesty will collect $2 billion is overly optimistic.

He made the comment while being quizzed by opposition spokesman on national security, Delroy Chuck, about the ministry’s projection it will collect $921 million from traffic tickets issued this year.

Chuck suggested the $921 million figure was conservative in light of the $2 billion that the government is projecting it will get from the amnesty.

But Bunting said he thought the $2 billion figure was ambitious and that it would not all go to the national security ministry.

Last year the government collected $620 million dollars from traffic fines.
