WESTERN BUREAU:
The police have detained a man considered to be one of the masterminds behind the lottery scam in western Jamaica.

The detainee, who is a well-known political activist, was held during a raid in the upscale community of Coral Gardens in Montego Bay, St. James.

This the second time in a few years he is being arrested.

Meanwhile, it is understood that a brother of the alleged mastermind was also taken into custody today during a simultaneous operation in Pitfour near Granville, St. James.

Preliminary reports indicate that several motor vehicles were seized in the pre-dawn operations.

The Gleaner/Power 106 will have subsequent updates following a police press conference in Montego Bay this afternoon.
