DPP denies clearing Jack Warner

2012-05-30 10:02:36 | (0 Comments)

Trinidad and Tobago’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, says he never instructed the police to clear former FIFA vice president Austin Jack Warner of bribery allegations.

The allegations against Warner, who is also Trinidad’s Works Minister, surfaced last year during the campaign for the FIFA presidential elections.

Media reports out of Trinidad yesterday, said Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs had informed the Police Service Commission that based on the advice of the DPP no further action can be taken in the case.

However, the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), said Gaspard has denied making such a decision and insists that he has not cleared anyone involved in the probe nor has he authorised the police to bring the investigation to an end.

CMC quotes Gaspard as saying he informed the police that based on the evidence submitted to his office he could not determine that any law was broken.
