NewsFalmouth preparing for hurricane season2012-05-31 13:17:15 | (0 Comments)
The Mayor of Falmouth Garth Wilkinson says plans are in place for the hurricane season which begins tomorrow.
Mayor Wilkinson who chairs the parish disaster preparedness committee said shelter managers already trained. He also said they have been assigned to 98 per cent of the 102 shelters in the parish. According to Mayor Wilson, the other shelters will be assigned shelter managers soon. He said maintenance work such as the cleaning of drains and the cutting of overgrown trees has started. However, the mayor said the Council is yet to get its disaster funds from Central Government and so it has had to be using council fund to undertake the activities. The Mayor also said he has devised a plan to repair one road per month in each parish council division. As a result, he said he is expecting to complete some 9 kilometers of roadway by the end of this calendar year. The matter was heard by Court of Appeal President of Seymour Panton, Karl Harrison (now retired) and justice Mahadev Dukharan. radio@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
