Murder on the rise in Trinidad

2012-06-09 11:32:24 | (0 Comments)

A spike in murders in Trinidad has prompted the security forces to lock down parts of the capital, the island’s densely populated East-West corridor and central districts in a series of vehicle stop-and-search operations.

Several drivers were stopped and searched, leading to the arrests of 69 people in the capital, Port of Spain, and elsewhere in northern Trinidad.

The police say the offences included possession of illegal drugs, arms and ammunition, and outstanding warrants.

Police say most of the murders have been concentrated in and near the capital.
