The Anglican Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands says Jamaica could run the risk of discrediting the British Monarchy in its zeal to become a republic.
The Rev. Howard Gregory
Addressing congregants during a service to mark the celebration of Queen Elizabeth IIís Diamond Jubilee at the St Andrew Parish Church this morning, the Right Reverend Howard Gregory said although Jamaica is at a crossroads in its efforts to develop a national identity, people must be careful not to bring the monarchical governance into disrepute.
He says in spite of the circumstances which led to Her Majestyís ascension to the throne, she has been sensitive to the needs of her people over the past century.
