Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz says he’s concerned that severe drought conditions in the parish could result in health problems for residents.

He is calling for the relevant authorities to intervene and begin trucking water to residents.

Vaz says the local authorities are not able to respond to the needs of residents as there are only two or three contracted water trucks in Portland.

He says he has been assisting with the trucking of water through his Constituency Development Fund allotment but due to the severity and scale of the drought greater support is required.

Vaz is calling for a meeting with the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Water, the National Water Commission and the Portland Parish Council to coordinate the necessary relief efforts.
