Livity still under investigation

The Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT), says it is still pursuing criminal investigations against alleged West Kingston strongman Leighton ‘Livity’ Coke despite his release from custody.

Head of the MIT Superintendent, Michael Phipps said investigators are now consulting with in-house attorneys before deciding their next move.

Livity, who is the brother of confessed drug lord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, was freed of gun charges last month after nearly two years in jail.

He was arrested and charged in May 2010, for allegedly shooting at members of the security forces who had gone into the West Kingston community of Tivoli Gardens to arrest his brother.

However, weeks after his release, Livity turned himself in to the police after investigators claimed they had fresh information linking him to several crimes committed in west Kingston.

He was released on Monday after days of questioning.

Phipps said investigators are now reviewing all the evidence they have gathered, after which a decision will be taken on the appropriate course of action.
