JPS assessing load shedding issues

2012-06-28 18:25:53 | (0 Comments)

The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) says it’s assessing the extent of the shortfall in generating capacity and how long customers will continue to experience disruptions in their power supply.

This morning, the JPS advised that it would be conducting load shedding across the island as the company is experiencing challenges in generating electricity.

The JPS says this is because two of its major units are not working and it’s also experiencing a thin reserve margin.

The company says two other units operated by its Independent Power Producers are also down.

Speaking on the programme Justice on Power 106 this afternoon, Head of Corporate Communications at JPS, Winsome Callum said the company was assessing the situation as it regards power supply to Jamaicans over the next few days.

Callum says it’s expected that the JPS will be able to provide details to the public before the end of the day.

In the meantime, she is urging JPS customers to take the necessary steps to protect their appliances and other equipment to avoid damage.
