NewsODPEM: Air quality on toll now safe for motorists2012-06-30 09:46:38 | (0 Comments)
Motorists are now free use the Port Henderson Road following an advisory last night from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) that the fumes which affected the area have dissipated.
The noxious fumes had also resulted in the closure of the Portmore toll road and of businesses along Marcus Garvey Drive and surrounding areas. Several persons had to seek medical attention as a result of the fumes. The ODPEM says environmental conditions have normalised as the odour has dissipated significantly and, therefore, poses no immediate danger to the public. It says samples of sand and sea water were collected by the National Environment and Planning Agency to be analysed over the coming days. The ODPEM says additional, air quality will also be monitored over the next seven days.
