CaribbeanGrenada: Gov’t, ruling party rift over anniversary celebrations2012-07-02 11:31:03 | (0 Comments)
A rift in Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress appears set to widen as the government and the party announce separate events to celebrate the administration’s fourth anniversary.
Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, the NDC’s political leader, has planned a rally for July 8 on the island’s west coast, the same day the NDC executive has organised a separate event in the central region. It is reported that the conflict was the subject of discussion at a party executive meeting on Thursday, attended by the prime minister. It is further reported that Thomas rejected a request to call off the prime minister’s rally. The NDC has been rocked by major in-fighting, which has so far resulted in the recent sacking of two government ministers and the resignation of two senior ministers.
