CMC - Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller will be the guest of honour at the Jamaica’s 50th independence anniversary gala in New York.

According to Paulette Willoughby, chair of The Jamaican Independence Celebration Foundation said they are honoured that the Prime Minister will join fellow Jamaicans and well-wishers to celebrate this historic milestone.

“This golden anniversary of independence is not only a moment to join together to look back on our journey and accomplishments, but to support our forward momentum as a people for the next fifty years,” Willoughby said.

Willoughby said the 50th Independence Gala will be held on August 18.

Meantime, New York City’s Chapter of InterNations, a global network of expatriates who promote cultural experiences, has partnered with the Jamaica Tourist Board in celebrating the event.

The public event showcased elements of the island’s culture and featured Jamaica-themed raffle prizes.
