Arthur Williams Snr remembered

Former parliamentarian, Arthur Williams Snr was today remembered as a politician who brought a level of dignity and decorum to the houses of Parliament.

Scores of persons including politicians, family members, and friends turned out to the Mona Chapel at the University of the West Indies to pay their last respects to the man affectionately called Teacher Williams.

In his eulogy, Senator Arthur Williams Junior remembered his father as a man with many credentials who dedicated his life to serving his country through education and politics.

He noted that the academic performance of all the schools his father served improved during his tenure and the schools all rose significantly in the Ministry of Education’s grading system.

Senator Williams also recalled the pioneering work of his father in the area of distance education for which he received national recognition.

The late Arthur Williams once served as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and as parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education.
He died last month just two months before his 99th birthday.
