No political involvement in Linden actions says Guyana police
2012-07-21 08:34:38 | (0 Comments)
The Guyana Police Force has rejected reports of political involvement in the actions taken by its members to quell protests in the mining town of Linden on Wednesday.
Their actions left three people dead and several others nursing injuries.
The police force says it is cognisant of rumours circulating among concerned members of the public that it had been under political direction when they took action.
However, it says at no time was any instruction given to the police by any political personality in relation to the policing of the protest.
The demonstrators had been protesting the decision of the Donald Ramotar administration to increase the price of electricity as of July 1.
