West Indies take charge of first Test

Chris Gayle marked his return to Test cricket with a big century as West Indies reached 256 for one following the lunch break, chasing New Zealand’s 341 on the third day of the opening Test.

The match is being played at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Gayle, who was 85 overnight, scored 150 his 14th Test century.

Gayle’s opening partner Kieran Powell also smashed a century.

The two featured in an opening partnership of 254, the highest West Indies opening stand against Zimbabwe 11 years ago in Bulawayo.

Powell, a graduate of the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre, is 101 not out. Powell who was 58 overnight reached his century just after the lunch interval.

The other not out batsman is Assad Fudadin on 4.
