NewsLinden residents continue protest against light subsidy cut in Guyana2012-07-29 18:15:55 | (0 Comments)
Angry residents of the bauxite mining town of Linden in Guyana continued protests today against Government’s decision to cut an electricity subsidy.
The decision will result in residents served by the Linden Electricity Corporation paying more for power. Police and army personnel watched today as residents used tyres to block roads even as some attending a church service gave money to fund the ongoing protests. Since July 18, Lindeners have virtually shut down the town, CANA reports, to force the government to reverse its decision. The residents have also been demanding justice for the fatal shootings of three men during the protests last Wednesday.
