New Tropical Depression forms in Atlantic

2012-08-04 01:22:16 | (0 Comments)

The sixth Tropical Depression for the season has formed in the far eastern Atlantic.

The Met Service says at 10 p.m. the centre of Tropical Depression # 6 was located near Latitude 13.8 degrees north and Longitude 27.8 degrees west or about 385 kilometres west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.

This is not an immediate threat to Jamaica.

The Depression is moving toward the west northwest near 26 km/h and this general motion should continue at a slightly slower forward speed during the next two days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h with higher gusts and some intensification is anticipated during the next day or two.

Tropical Depression # 5 earlier this week developed into Tropical Storm Ernesto, which is now passing over the Eastern Caribbean waters.
