Storm alert still in effect as Ernesto bolts away

2012-08-05 18:03:21 | (0 Comments)

The Meteorological Service has maintained the tropical storm warning for Jamaica even as Ernesto continues to move rapidly toward the west.

The Met Service says there should be outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms tonight, especially over southern parishes. It says gusty wind conditions should persist over most of the southern portion of the island.

At 4 o’ clock this afternoon, Tropical Storm Ernesto was south of the island or about 300 kilometers south of Portland Point in Clarendon.

The Met Office says conditions associated with Ernesto will give way to a strong High Pressure Ridge over the island late tomorrow afternoon.
