A man was this afternoon arrested in the London Olympic Stadium after he threw a plastic bottle at Usain Bolt while the athlete was in the starting blocks.

The starter had just told the athletes “set” when the bottle landed right behind Bolt.

A police spokesman has told reporters that the man was heard shouting abuse at Bolt as he prepared for the race.

The spectator who was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance, was removed from the stadium and taken to a police station in east London.

Olympic bronze medal judo winner, Edith Bosch, told Dutch TV that she was standing behind the man when he shouted insults at Bolt before throwing the bottle towards him.
