The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM, is again urging the government to deal decisively with the issue of squatting.

Director General of ODPEM Ronald Jackson says while there is no quick fix, there are short term measures that can be implemented.

He’s suggesting the relocation of people living illegally on government and private lands.

Jackson says persons who settle in vulnerable areas, such as on gully banks; put themselves in danger especially during natural disasters such as hurricanes.

There were worries on the weekend with the threat of Tropical Storm Ernesto.

However, Jamaica was spared of adverse effects after the storm weakened.
