KPH directed to maintain operational standards

The Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) has been instructed to strengthen the operational best practices at the facility and all other institutions under its watch.

A statement issued by the health authority says the KPH management has been mandated to improve its patient care and its customer and maintenance services.

It has also been directed to establish an audit system that will measure the hospital’s performance.

The directive follows a recent Gleaner expose' on the terrible conditions at the KPH.

In a statement issued last evening, the South Eastern Regional Health Authority said its board met with the CEO of the KPH and the Victoria Jubilee Hospital to outline the concerns about the deficiencies at the facilities.

According to the statement, it has been made clear that the management staff will be held accountable for the maintenance and operation of the hospital.

The health authority is promising that a steering committee and a project management team will be established to provide support to KPH management.

This steering committee will meet on a bi-weekly basis with the CEO and managers of the two hospitals, KPH and Victoria Jubilee.
