Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar has lauded the gold medal successes of Jamaica and other Caribbean countries at the Olympic games in London.

Persad-Bissessar also praised the achievements of Grenada's Kerani James, who won the gold medal in the 400 metre race and her countryman Lalonde Gordon, who won a bronze medal in the same event.

She singled out double sprint champions Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for their performances.

"We share your joy," said Persad-Bissessar, at a ceremony this afternoon at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.

The ceremony was to unveil a plaque in her honour as one of 17 persons to graduate from the UWI and become a head of state in the region.
