Decision delay for 4X100m relay team

LONDON, England:
Head coach of Jamaica’s athletics team at the Olympic Games in London, Maurice Wilson, says a decision on the make up of the men’s 4x100m relay team to contest the heat on Friday, will be discussed after tomorrow’s 200m final.

There have been questions about the composition of the team, following news that former world record holder Asafa Powell is ending his season early because of a groin injury.

Wilson noted that several things will have to be taken into account such as the teams that Jamaica will be drawn against, and whether the 200m finals trio of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Warren Weir will be available for the first round assignment.

The pool now consists of Michael Frater, Nesta Carter and Kemar Bailey-Cole.

Sprint hurdler Andrew Riley, who has run 10.03s this year, is another option for the coaching staff to consider for the 4x100m heats.

Jamaica is the defending Olympic champion in the 4x100m and has the world record of 37.04s, which was set at the 2011 IAAF World Championships by the team of Carter, Frater, Blake and Bolt.
