Bunting praises cops for drop in major crimes

2012-08-14 09:57:24 | (0 Comments)

National Security Minister Peter Bunting is praising members of the security forces for their work which led to a dip in major crimes last month.

Statistics released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force yesterday showed decreases in six of the seven major crime groups.

This included an almost 17 per cent decline in murders, and a 25 per cent cut in shootings.

The only category showing an increase was larceny which went up by seven per cent.

Bunting praised the security forces for their work in tackling crime and expressed optimism that the downward trend will continue for the rest of the year saying already there are positive signs.

According to the National Security Minister, there have been 28 murders since the start of this month.

He says this is a 35 per cent reduction when compared with the 43 murders recorded during the corresponding period last year.

Bunting is appealing to Jamaicans to continue cooperating with the security forces and provide information regarding criminal activity in their communities.
