LIAT workers protesting

Regional carrier LIAT has advised that one of its flights to Grenada scheduled for today has been reinstated.

That flight will leave from Trinidad to Grenada then to Barbados.

Yesterday evening, LIAT announced the cancellation of several flights in and out of the island today and tomorrow as the airline’s workers embarked on protest action over the non-payment of wages.

The workers, represented by the Technical and Allied Workers Union, claim they are owed over EC$5 million for overtime and meal allowances.

But the airline says it is not willing to make any offer apart from that outlined by Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.

Spencer had suggested an offer of EC$800,000 in December last year following industrial action by LIAT workers in Grenada which threatened the island’s carnival.
