Education Ministry to meet with schools union to settle grouses

2012-08-16 18:13:40 | (0 Comments)

The education ministry and the union of schools’ Agricultural and Allied Workers Union are set to meet tomorrow to discuss the grouses of some workers at two schools.

The union today wrote to the ministry’s acting permanent secretary, Grace Mclean, giving her until the end of the month to meet with it to discuss issues affecting staff at Knox College High School and the Bethlehem Moravian College.

The union said among the issues to be discussed are several wrongful dismissals, breaches of the wage agreement between the workers and the government and the non-payment of certain allowances.

The union also said a number of persons who have been employed to the institutions are yet to be appointed to permanent positions despite working for more than 15 years.

This afternoon, McLean said she had not received the letter from the union, but noted that a meeting had already been scheduled for tomorrow morning to discuss the matters.
