NewsJamaica still under flash flood watch2012-08-26 12:58:01 | (0 Comments)
The Meteorological Service is maintaining a flash flood warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Ann, St. Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon until 5 o' clock this afternoon.
A flash flood warning means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. The Met Office says the centre of Tropical Storm Isaac is moving northwest away from Jamaica, but a trough induced by the system is expected to continue to produce unstable conditions across the area. It forecasts that there will be periods of showers and scattered thunderstorms which will affect mainly eastern and central parishes. It says there is, therefore, potential for flash flooding and landslides, over low-lying and flood-prone areas. The Met Service says fishers and other marine interests are advised to exercise caution as strong gusty winds are likely in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms offshore the north coast.
