Concern about lack of highway patrols

2012-08-31 13:09:52 | (0 Comments)

The Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington is concerned about the lack of police patrols on the country’s main highways.

In this week’s Force Orders, the Commissioner reminded his Divisional Commanders that the absence of visible highway patrol enables free movement of criminals.

He said it also undermines the confidence of citizens.

The Commissioner raised the issue stating that little or no police patrol presence on the highways creates worry for members of the public.

He said it has been proven that the presence of police officers in marked vehicles on the highways reduces the likelihood of a crime being committed.

He has urged his commanders to ensure that there is sustained visible police presence on a consistent basis.
