Montserrat implements new online visa system

Montserrat has introduced a new system that will allow visitors who wish to visit the Overseas British Territory (OBT) to acquire the necessary visa online.

The new system went into effect yesterday.

In a statement yesterday, the government said persons travelling from countries that require a visa to travel to Montserrat will be able to complete the forms online and, once approved, the will be issued with an electronic visa in the PDF format.

Director of the Department for Information Technology, Denzil West says the new system was undertaken in collaboration with the Immigration Department, through the establishment of the Montserrat Online Visa Application system (MOVA).

He says plans are already in progress to expand MOVA to include a number of other immigration and work permit-related transactions via the Internet.
