Policeman taken into custody, family placed under protection

2012-09-02 11:12:37 | (0 Comments)

The family of the policeman implicated in the shooting death of a woman and the injuring of another in Yallahs, St Thomas has been placed under police protection while he is taken off front-line duty.

A release from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) this morning says the policeman has been taken into custody while the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and his counterparts investigate the incident.

A 25-year-old pregnant woman was fatally shot and another woman injured yesterday when the policeman allegedly attempted to arrest one of them for using expletives. The shooting caused residents of the community to become irate as they used debris to block the road.

The CCN says a police team has been deployed to protect the family of the policeman implicated in the shooting, while personnel from the police's chaplaincy unit have been deployed to offer counseling to both families.
