Another charge for Bicknell

St Andrew businessman Bruce Bicknell has been charged with a second offence in the high-profile case which also involves West Portland MP Daryl Vaz and Senior Superintendent of Police James Forbes.

Bicknell who was last month charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice is now facing the additional charge of bribery.

At that time, Forbes was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, while Vaz was charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Today, Bicknell’s attorney Peter Champagnie said he was not surprised by the additional charge for his client.

The three accused were in court where Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser extended their $250,000 bail.

The case relates to the alleged attempt by Bicknell to bribe Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn and the alleged efforts of Forbes and Vaz to have the businessman absolved.

The case is to be mentioned again on October 3.

The magistrate also varied Bicknell's bail conditions after Champagnie informed the court that the businessman wanted to travel to Florida in the US between September 14 and 18.

As a result, the magistrate ruled that the businessman's travel documents be returned to him and that the stop order placed against him at the ports be suspended until September 19.

Bicknell has been ordered to return his travel documents to the police on that day.
