Principal of Brown’s Town High School in St. Ann, Johnallson Feraria, has described the mood at the school as somber but manageable, following Wednesday’s accident in which eight students were seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash.

“All the students in the bus were Brown’s Town High students, on the afternoon shift. Eight of them got serious injuries and have been hospitalised with one having severe broken bones and had to be transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital,” Feraria told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre this morning.

“School is operating normally but teachers would be concerned about the students’ well-being. If anything, it would be students on the afternoon shift who would be more affected, he added.

The accident, along the St. D’Acre main road, happened when a public passenger bus and a truck collided.

Reports indicated that the truck had veered to the right side of the road and into the path of the oncoming bus.

The driver of the bus, Christopher Hall of Alexandria in the parish, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The injured passengers were rushed to the St. Ann’s Bay hospital, where eight students were admitted.

One student was later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital because of the extent of injuries sustained.

The police said the driver of the truck will be charged as investigation into the accident continues.
