Motorist on manslaughter charge gets bail

2012-09-07 12:43:12 | (0 Comments)

A St. Catherine motorist who caused the death of a pedestrian more than a year ago was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 today.

Khahid Peart is charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of 53-year-old Fitzroy Nicholson.

Nicholson died after being hit along St. John’s Road in St. Catherine on March 19 last year.

In making a bail application in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, Peart’s attorney Lancelot Clarke Jr. said Nicholson had walked into the path of the vehicle.

He also asked the court to consider that Peart is a student and needs to return to school.

It’s understood that the accident reconstruction report and the post mortem certificate are still outstanding.

Peart is to return to court on December 11, when the matter will again be mentioned.
