NewsJLP caretaker calls for community safety system in St. James2012-09-07 15:49:08 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for Central St. James Central, Heroy Clarke feels the parish needs a system which will help to improve public safety.
He is lobbying for the implementation of a Community Safety Diagnosis in St. James. Clarke feels the diagnosis is needed now more than ever given the recent upsurge in crime. Over the last 24 hours, four persons including two pregnant women were shot fatally in St. James. This followed two separate triple murders in the parish. Clarke said the diagnosis would inform decision-makers on local issues and challenges facing the community. He said it would also give them the tools needed to come up with the best possible solutions. Clarke is also of the view that such a measure would help fix some of the social ills within the parish. In the meantime, National Security Minister Peter Bunting has indicated that steps are being taken to address the flare up of violence in St. James. The national security minister said he is concerned about the increase in crime in St. James and has already started to take action. Police investigators say preliminary information suggests yesterday’s killings were carried out by gang members involved in the lottery scam. editorial@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
