The social security ministry is embarking on a campaign to lower the absenteeism level among students on the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).
The ministry’s 'School Wi Seh!’ Campaign is to be launched today.
Students on PATH must maintain a good attendance report to continue to benefit from the programme.
However, the ministry said over the last six years, there has been an increase in the overall levels of non-compliance with the PATH programme, especially among males in higher grade levels in secondary schools.
The social security ministry said it is worried that students have not been turning up for classes and wants to turn around that trend.
It said the ‘School Wi Seh!’ campaign will aim to motivate students to attend school regularly and highlight the benefits of completing high school.
The ministry said it will also be reaching out to parents, guardians and the general public, to endorse education as one of the proven vehicles for breaking the cycle of poverty.
