Two men have been arrested and charged after reportedly being found with a quantity of counterfeit $1000 and $500 commemorative ‘Jamaica 50’ notes.

They are 24-year-old Richard Brown and 18-year-old Brenton Wilkinson, both of Middle Quarters, in St Elizabeth.

It is reported that a team of police personnel conducted an operation along the New Market main road in the parish.

The police say they were conducting spot checks in the New Market area, when the men were stopped and searched and the notes were discovered.

The notes reportedly bear the following serial numbers: WT543359 and WR403543.

They were later charged with uttering and possession of counterfeit notes.

The men are scheduled to appear in the Black River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 12.
