Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has expressed support for Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew, Damion Crawford, who has faced criticism for spending most of his constituency development fund on educating and employing young people.
Crawford has come under fire from some constituents who have chastised him for not providing them with back-to-school vouchers, money and other hand-outs. Crawford has said he has spent some $9 million from his constituency development fund to provide education and youth development programmes in the constituency. However, some constituents have stressed that it was their votes which helped the MP to get into office and as such they should receive goodies for their support. However, Crawford has declared that he will not be giving any handouts and has vowed to continue his education initiatives. Speaking in the Parliament today, the education minister lauded the East Rural St. Andrew MP adding that parliamentarians should play a leading role in educating youths. radio@gleanerjm.com Listen to Audio clip
