Jamaicans will soon begin paying more for baked products as the price of flour has gone up.

The Jamaica Flours Mills has advised its customers that the price of its products have increased by between 10 and 14 per cent.

The increases took effect on Monday.

President of the Baker’s Association of Jamaica, Audrey Lecky, said her members will have to adjust the cost of their products to accommodate the increase in the flour prices.

Lecky said bakers were expecting the upward movement in flour prices, in light of the drought and grain crisis in the United States and elsewhere.

However, she said this hike has been compounded by the increased GCT rate on electricity, the slide in the Jamaican dollar and increases in other input materials.

The Baker’s Association president said the increase in the prices of baked products will vary by sellers but effort is being made to keep prices economical.
