NSWMA to clear mini dumps

2012-09-12 12:58:30 | with audio | (0 Comments)

The National Solid Waste Management Authority(NSWMA), has embarked on a programme to identify and clear mini dumps across the island.

Executive Director of the NSWMA, Jennifer Edwards, believes the prevalence of small dumps is a contributing factor to the rat infestation that now exists, especially in the Corporate Area.

She said 1,600 tickets have been issued to persons in breach of the disposal of garbage guidelines.

Edwards said over the last six months, 600 persons have also been taken to court for breaches of the Anti-Litter Act.

She said the draft regulations for the NSWMA are being reviewed with a view to increase the penalties for those found in breach.
