Maggotty Power Plant study underway
2012-09-12 13:23:23 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says a Fresh Water Study is now being undertaken for the development of the new Maggotty Power Plant in St. Elizabeth.
The power company signed the contract for the plant’s construction in December last year.
It says the study will assess the flora and fauna in the area earmarked for the hydroelectric power plant, and will measure any permanent impact the construction may have on the environment.
Meanwhile, JPS said the preparation work for the power plant is proceeding on schedule.
The plant is expected to add 6.3 mega watts of electricity to the national grid, when it is commissioned in 2013.
The project is being undertaken at a cost of about $33 million.
There are eight other hydroelectric power plants in Jamaica.
