American to appear in court today

The American, who was arrested last week at the Norman Manley International Airport for breaches of the Customs and Proceeds of Crime Act is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court today.

He is 41-year-old businessman, Sohail Muhammed Saddiq, who resides in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The police said about 4 o’clock on September 4, Saddiq arrived in the island on a flight from Panama, enroute from Dubai.

They say during routine security checks, his luggage was searched and EU$313,500 and US$700 were found concealed in an item of clothing.

Saddiq was subsequently taken into custody and was formally charged yesterday.
