THIS WEEK IN SPORTGLOBE: School coach admits sacrificing footballers’ future

As the schoolboy football season kicked off Saturday afternoon, a Corporate Area coach has admitted a feeling of “guilt” saying some players’ future are being sacrificed for medals and trophies to adorn principals’ offices.

The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association has a lowly 45 per cent average in four subjects as its academic qualification to participate in high school sports - a mark which returns to doom many student athletes after their high school days are over.

West is best
The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association has told daCosta Cup teams from the eastern end of the island not to expect any changes in western venues for the semi-finals and final of the rural schoolboy football competition.

Whenever facing western teams in semi-finals and finals, teams from eastern parishes have to travel many miles to play at venues they consider home grounds for western teams, instead of meeting at closer and neutral venues.
