Wrecker driver solicits $10,000 from motorist, fined $200,000

2012-09-15 12:36:37 | (0 Comments)

A wrecker driver contracted to tow vehicles seized by the police has pleaded guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice.

He is 39-year-old Gary Williams who was fined $200,000 or 12 months in prison when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

It’s reported that in November last year Williams was instructed to tow a vehicle seized by the police to the pound.

Unknowing to the police, Williams reportedly solicited $10,000 from the driver of the motor vehicle to release the car.

The Anti-Corruption Branch ACB was alerted and Williams was arrested after the car was released to the owner.
