Trinidad & Tobago’s National Security Minister Austin 'Jack' Warner has issued a stern warning to gang members in the volatile Laventile area along the country’s east-west corridor.

Addressing residents at a basketball court in the community last evening, Mr Warner said those involved in criminal gangs should lay down their weapons or it will be what he describes as a fight to the finish.

The community of Laventile has seen an escalation in gang violence since last weekend resulting in the deaths of four people during a 48 hour period.

But Mr Warner says the police has put several measures in place to take back the community and urged those involved in gang activities to put down their weapons and rejoin society.

The army and the police have increased their presence in the area and Mr Warner says attempts will be made to improve socio-economic conditions there.
