NewsCop accused of killing pregnant woman for court today2012-09-17 09:19:08 | (0 Comments) ![]() Kayann Lamont - Contributed. Corporal Dwayne Smart, who is accused of the murder of a woman, who was eight months pregnant, is to appear in court today. Twenty-seven-year-old Kay-Ann Lamont was shot dead on September 1 in Yallahs Square, St. Thomas. Smart is facing the charges of murder, wounding with intent, assault, and illegal possession of a firearm. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), had indicated that in light of the high publicity the case is receiving, she would enter a voluntary bill of indictment to have the matter proceed directly to the Home Circuit Court. This means that no preliminary enquiry will be held at the St. Thomas Resident Magistrate's Court. It is reported that Lamont and the policeman got into an altercation, after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language. During the scuffle, the pregnant woman was shot twice in the head reportedly by the policeman. She died on the spot. Corporal Dwayne Smart then reportedly shot Lamont’s sister in the shoulder. It is further reported that he attempted to shoot yet another sister but she escaped after running and hiding. The policeman, who was taken into custody, was later charged following a ruling by the DPP. radio@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
