West Indies beat Afghanistan by eight wickets

CMC – West Indies defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets in their second and final official warm-up game for the World Twenty20 Championship at the P Sara Oval on Monday.

Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith put on 29 runs in the first five overs for the first wicket, before Smith was dismissed.

Gayle smashed five fours and four sixes in making 65 from 48 balls, as West Indies cruised to an eight wicket triumph 125 for 2 in the 16th over after being set 123 to win.

Fellow Jamaican Marlon Samuels made an unbeaten 15 from 12 balls after Dwayne Smith fell for 13 from 20 and Johnson Charles 12 from 19.

Earlier, pacer Fidel Edwards picked up 3 for 24 and spinner Sunil Narine 2 for 23 as West Indies restricted Afghanistan to 122 for 7.

Asghar Stanikzai top scored with 53 from 50 balls.

Scores are Afghanistan 122 for seven off 20 overs West Indies 125 for two off 15.5 overs.

The regional side will face Australia in their first game on September 22 in Colombo.
