Accused St Thomas killer cop remanded

Police Corporal Dwayne Smart was this morning remanded when he appeared in court in connection the murder of Kay-Ann Lamont, who was eight months pregnant.

Lamont, 27, was shot dead on September 1 in Yallahs Square, St. Thomas.

Smart is facing the charges of murder, wounding with intent, assault, and illegal possession of a firearm.

He is to return to court on Wednesday when his lawyer Valerie Neita-Robertson, will make a bail application.

It is reported that Lamont and the policeman got into an altercation, after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language.

During the scuffle, the pregnant woman was shot twice in the head reportedly by the policeman.

She died on the spot.

Corporal Dwayne Smart then reportedly shot Lamont’s sister in the shoulder.

It is further reported that he attempted to shoot yet another sister but she escaped after running and hiding.

The policeman, who was taken into custody, was later charged following a ruling by the DPP.
