Good Samaritans murderers get two life sentences

The two men convicted for double murder in the so-called Good Samaritans case have been given two life sentences.

Andrew Ennis and Passmore Millings also called Shane Brown, of Kingston addresses were sentenced a short while ago in the Home Circuit Court.

They were sentenced to life in prison and 50 years before parole for the murder of Jhannel Whyte; and life in prison and 40 years before parole for the murder of Whyte’s boyfriend, Taiwo McKenzie.

Whyte and McKenzie were found with their throats slashed in Mount Salus, near Smokey Vale, St Andrew on November 9, 2007.

In handing down the sentence, Justice Lloyd Hibbert said the murders were extremely distressing.

He said he took into consideration the ages of the victims at the time they were killed.

Whyte was 23 and McKenzie was 24.

The Crown proved that the couple was kidnapped on November 7, 2007 when they went to Havendale to deliver medical supplies to a man who was injured in a motor vehicle accident with Whyte and McKenzie.

Crown witness George Cooper testified that the couple was tied up, gagged and led into bushes after bringing medical supplies for him.

Cooper is now serving an eight-year-prison sentence in relation to the incident.

The convicted men, Ennis and Millings had given unsworn statements denying that they were involved in the incident.

The Crown was represented by Director of Public Prosecution Paula Llewellyn, Claudette Thompson and Kerri-ann Kemble.

Ennis was represented by CJ Mitchell, while Millings was represented by the father-son team of Tom and Christian Tavares-Finson.
