NewsUPDATE: Persons of interest in ex-senior cop’s murder surrender2012-09-17 17:12:48 | (0 Comments)
Barbara Gayle, Justice Coordinator
The three men named as persons of interest in the murder of retired Senior Superintendent of Police Anthony ‘Tony’ Hewitt have turned themselves in to the police. They are: Raymond Francis, Jermaine Smith and Jomo McLeod who are all from the community of Commons off Red Hills Road in St. Andrew. They were accompanied to the Constant Spring Police Station by their attorney Christian Tavares Finson. The men are in custody at this hour. Tavares Finson told The Gleaner/Power 106 News that the men will be cooperating with the police. Hewitt died last night from gunshot wounds he received in an attack hours earlier at an apartment on Donmair Close, Kingston 19. It is believed that gunmen in the area attacked the senior cop in retaliation for the recent police killing of a man in a nearby community. Residents say the retired police officer fought off his attackers and then ran back to his car. While running back to his car, the gunmen opened fire, hitting him in the hand, foot and buttocks. Hewitt managed to get into his car, grab his licensed firearm and take on the gunmen before collapsing. editorial@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
