Teachers and students of the Sargeantville Primary School in Harkers Hall, St. Catherine turned up this morning to find valuable items missing following a break-in last night.

The principal, Charmaine Palmer, who assumed office on September 1 told The Gleaner Power 106 News Centre that the thieves gained entry by tampering with the grille to the canteen and removing one of the windows to her office.

She said the thieves ransacked her office and stole a computer monitor, cash and other items.

Palmer said the vandals also attempted to break into the computer lab but were unsuccessful.

The school board and the community are calling for the Ministry of Education to assign security to the institution immediately.

Monica Brooks, vice chairman of the school board, said it was the third time that vandals were breaking into the school.

The matter was reported to the police and to the Ministry of Education.

The students were sent home early and the crime scene processed.
